Coming up with things to do in Houston is not a difficult task. The city is ripe with art, culture, sports and world class events. Neither locals nor tourists are short of things to do in this city. There are multiple information bureaus dedicated to informing people of the abundance of possible activities that Houston offers. For tourists, many hotels offer concierge services for their guests so that they are pointed in the right direction and have no trouble finding things to do or events in the city.

The visual and performing arts in Houston offer both locals and tourists a taste of culture. There are companies in all of the major performing arts disciplines including opera, ballet, music and theater. Those people who like arts and culture will be well served on their trip and better served as a resident. There is the vibrant Museum District in the city, offering fine arts exhibits, natural science exhibits and modern art exhibits for interested individuals.

The sports scene in Houston is also very vibrant. The three major professional sports leagues each have a team in Houston. The Houston Texans of the NFL, Houston Rockets of the NBA and Houston Astros of the MLB enjoy strong local followings. For anybody looking for things to do in Houston, attending a sporting event is a great way to experience the local culture.

Space Center Houston is the visitor’s center for JSC, and visitors are encouraged to take advantage of the opportunity to visit what has become such a big part of American history.

For tourists still looking for things to do in Houston, the Theater District is a 17 block area that is home to the Bayou Place entertainment center which houses several restaurants, bars, live music, billiards and films. Movies, plazas and parks also make up the Theater District. Also, the Verizon Wireless Theater is home to many concerts, stage plays and standup comedy performances.

There is never a shortage of parks for those who want to enjoy the great outdoors. There are over 300 parks in the city including Hermann Park which is home to the Houston Zoo. The Downtown Aquarium, the Galleria (largest shopping mall in Texas) and Old Market Square are also popular things to do in the city.

Are you planning to visit the Philippines? Do you want to have some ideas how your first travel will probably be?

If yes, you might want to consider some useful information I jotted down here, especially if it will be your first trip to the Philippines.

Basically, you will arrive in Manila Airport, also known as Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) and go through a passport control. Make sure you have 750 pesos for terminal fee and fill out the departure form. Your bags will be inspected and you will be scanned so better take off your shoes, belt, mobile phones, or things that you have in your pockets. After the custom control, you will proceed to the departure terminal. Trained dogs will also be around to check if you have drugs in your luggage. The departure is quite easy and the terminal is not so big, so there is no chance of getting lost.

Make sure to have some cash if you want to ride in a taxi. It usually costs 400-500 Philippine pesos, but it really depends where your destination or hotel is. There are money changers inside the terminal, so it will not be a problem if you don’t have Philippine money.

Some hotels offer transportation services (from hotel to Manila Airport and vice versa) and it’s better to book for that if it will be your first visit to the country. Or else, be prepared to get ripped off by taxi drivers in airport (not only in Manila but anywhere in the world). But you can still insist to use meter in taxi.

If someone will pick you up in your arrival, you need to look through a lot of people waving behind a barrier or better read what is written on their sign boards that matched your name. If you will not ride in the taxi, you will need to walk to the parking area with your luggage, which is approximately 400 meters away.

The weather is also unpredictable, depending what season you plan to go there. If it is not raining, you will surely think that the temperature is really hot. Expect long traffic delays within Metro Manila especially during rush hours.

Foreigners or international tourists usually stay around Malate, Ortigas and Makati area. There are lots of hotels to choose from, but ofcourse, it is up to your budget. Foreigners can also buy a pre-paid sim so it will not be expensive of calling abroad.

During the days, you can go to malls, shopping centers, parks and museums and if you prefer vibrant night life, you can go to some bars, restaurants, disco places, pubs or night clubs. You can find them everywhere, but be careful for pickpockets.

For sure, you don’t want to consume all your days in Manila. You may also want to visit some top tourist destinations like Boracay, Puerto Galera, Cebu, Subic Bay, Palawan, Bohol, Baguio, Banaue, Corregidor, Pangasinan, Batangas, Iloilo and Davao. Be captivated by the beauty of nature, white beaches, small islands and be thrilled by amazing underwater adventures.

You can directly arrange a trip to those places in some travel agencies or just book your trip online. It is not hard to communicate with Filipinos as most of them understand and speak English.

Filipinos are friendly and hospitable. Filipinos also love and treasure small presents (pasalubong). So if you want to have more friends, the fastest way is to give some small things from your home country.

Houston is one of the very important cities in Texas. If you want to insure your car out here then you will have to consider some points. You might have to check out the information related to the vehicle. You will also have to check the information about the driver. Finally, you will have to consider the coverage as well as the quote.

So let us start with the vehicle details which is the first priority related to the car insurance. At first the vehicle type is checked and when it is answered completely, then, the other factors are considered.

So let us check that what type of vehicle information are required. They are: vehicle type, vehicle make, vehicle model, sub model, how many days you drive it, vehicle use, distance you travel daily, estimated annual distance, is the vehicle owned or financed, where it is parked at night as well as the anti-theft features like audible alarm.

Hence we see that these are some of the information related to the vehicle which you will have to provide.

Then you will have to provide the details related to the driver. It might be that you are the driver or somebody else is being hired. You will have to tell about his name and address. The second thing which you will have to provide is that what your occupation is. You must give the name of the occupation you are in. you will also have to explain how long you have been in this occupation. If you have witnessed any accident or you have ever claimed then you will have to give the total information about it. The SR-22(DUI) filling is also required from your side.

Generally the people do have to mention the state from where they have taken the license.

After this you will have to select the coverage. There are generally many type of coverage available. You will have to select any one. If you will not select the best one then you will certainly be in problem. In fact coverage has a great effect on the car insurance premium and hence you will have to take the ample interest while selecting the best coverage for yourself. If you have previously insured your car then you will definitely get the benefit.

These are some of the factors in Houston on which the car insurance depends. You should keep them in mind and you will certainly be successful.

Have a great day!

Up until a few years ago transportation for those in wheelchairs was limited at best. The occupants of wheelchairs were sentenced to lives of seclusion. There was little thought put into the field of handicapped transportation. The movement of individuals in wheelchairs consisted mainly of removing them from their chair and loading them into standard vehicle. This problem was not noticed until the baby boomer society blossomed into the elderly with handicapped accessible needs. The numbers of those with handicaps or disabilities skyrocketed.

The use of power wheelchairs and power scooters has quadrupled in past fifteen years. Our greatest generation is getting older. Those guardians of freedom that prospered during the last century now require special needs for their golden years. These people are not satisfied with living out there lives in a secluded manner. The generations that moved and shook the world are not going quietly into the night. Their quality of life requires activity and social mixture. Nothing less will be acceptable.

The wheelchair van conversion companies have developed minivan conversions that allow wheelchair entry in the side and rear. Most of the conversions are automated and consist of button pushing activation. In fact, many handicap conversions make it possible for the wheelchair occupant to actually drive the vehicle. There is wonderful new equipment out there that permits the operation of the van with hand controls, joystick, and mouth control devices. Nothing has been overlooked or taken for granted when the handicapped person is driving the vehicle.

Up until a few years ago many of the large metropolitan cities had few options when it came to transporting the physically challenged. Those in wheelchairs were pretty much on their own when it came to getting around the big city. It became obvious to many city administrators and officials that a change was required for specialized transportation. Officials knew that the baby boomer generation was a valued member of society and still held high relevance in buying power.

The local government agencies could see that taxi cabs with wheelchair accessibility were needed. The city of New York and the City of Houston lead the way in the incorporation of wheelchair accessible cabs into existing fleets. Many hurdles had to be cleared. There was testing done to secure the best equipment for the job. The use of converted vehicles on the rough city streets would put many types of wheelchair cabs to the test. There were very few vehicles tough enough to take on the monumental task.

The rear entry wheelchair van conversion has prevailed as the winner. The rear entry van held up better through the rigors of testing due to the fact that the frame was not cut. The frame requires cutting and rebuilding on the side entry. This leaves question to the structural integrity of the side entry van over an extended amount of time and miles. There are also better seating options in the rear entry van for the taxi cab industry. The mid row seats allow for the transportation of three other people plus the wheelchair occupant. You can feel safe in a cab that is wheelchair accessible. They have been crash tested and are ready to serve the people that now require specialized treatment.

Are you stuck with no transportation because your car broke down between paydays? If you are stuck at home, but have a personal computer and Internet access, you can take advantage of online payday loans from the comfort of home or your office, whichever the case may be. You never know when the unexpected will catch you off guard between paydays, but with the online payday loans that are simple and easy to get, you can solve your dilemma, without stress or embarrassment.

When your car breaks down, it can be embarrassing asking for rides to work, not to mention the inconvenience. In addition, you might need to ask for money to cover repairs, but you don’t have the options to get a cash advance at work and all of your relatives are tapped out. There is no need to involve anybody else in your business when you can get online payday loans, with little effort. This can give you the extra money you need and the fees are affordable and nominal, in terms of actual dollars. In fact, you might save money, if you are stuck taking a taxi to work!

Of course, there are other reasons that you might need to take advantage of online payday loans because you might need extra cash to pay a forgotten utility or credit card bill. This can save you cash because you can avoid late fees and reconnection fees, but if you overdraw the checking account, you can be faced with overdraft fees, which online payday loans can help you avoid. When you think about the easy process to get online payday loans, you will realize how valuable they can be for a number of reasons.

Not only can you save hassles, embarrassment and expense, but you can get peace of mind and easily fit the repayment into your budget. Online payday loans might be offered with 30 day repayment schedules and renewal options, making it easier to handle the unexpected. Unlike a loan from a friend or relative, you can extend your terms for a nominal fee and nobody needs to know about your financial situation. Online payday loans can be the best solution for many different reasons, but the ease and convenience are only two reasons people find them a valuable resource for extra cash between paydays.

If you are faced with a sudden emergency that demands extra cash between paydays, there is no need to panic. As long as you meet basic eligibility guidelines, complete the simple application and electronically sign your loan documents, you can get the money you need in a matter of hours and sometimes less!

Most people like this easy option to take care of the problems that happen unexpectedly and to get the extra cash they need between paydays. With the online payday loans, there is no reason to worry and no reason to be embarrassed by your financial situation because it can happen to anybody. Online quick cash loans can make the problem go away and you can pay the money back on terms that are easier to budget than other options.

As people search the globe for travel destinations, more people are enjoying Panama tourism than ever before. The country is a very easy trip, especially for people from the United States and Canada and it has an amazing amount to offer even the most seasoned tourist. Panama tourism can take you to the mountains, to the beach, to a rainforest or even to the past. Because of its long-term affiliation with the US, many things about Panama are familiar to Americans, but the beauty of Panama tourism is that no matter from where you come, you can find something exciting and new.

Mail forwarding services are available from locations such as Miami, FL for approx. $25 per month. These services provide an address and regularly forward mail based on a weight charge.

Police: If you are a victim of a crime, report it immediately to the local police, especially if you will be making an insurance claim. It should also contain a list of inoculations including type, manufacturer and batch number.

Panama Travel

With the continuing growth of Panama’s Tocumen International Airport, Panama tourism has become an easy adventure. With direct flights from both Miami, FL and Houston, TX, Panama is little more than two hours away from the US. Other countries, including several in Europe offer direct flights to Panama as well, connecting Panama tourism with the rest of the world. The US government is very favorable about travel to Panama, listing only a small portion of the border area with Columbia as hazardous for travel.

When you arrive in Panama City (virtually all international flights to Panama come to Panama City), the first thing you will do is purchase a tourist card. This $5 document gives you permission to travel within the country for up to 90 days. Once you leave the airport, there is a variety of travel options to use: city buses, intercontinental buses, taxis, rental cars, airplanes and boats.

City buses – The brightly painted buses of Panama City are nearly tourist attractions by themselves. This is the lowest-priced form of transportation and an interesting cultural experience as well. They are called Diablo Rojos, red devils. Expect them to be crowded and loud.

Intercity buses – The country has a well developed bus system, similar to the Greyhound system in the US. For $30 you can travel from Panama City to San Jose, Costa Rica. If you show them that you are over 55 (with an (ID) you will go for $24. This is a great way to see the geographic beauty of Panama. In addition, buses are typical forms of transportation to remote areas such as Boquete.

Taxis – These distant relatives of the US taxi system are now all yellow and will beep their horns to alert possible passengers that they available. Taxis are very reasonably priced and can even be rented hourly or for trips to specific destinations.

Rental cars – Many of the same companies that service the US are in Panama as well. Prices for rentals cars can be reasonable via the Internet but very high in office. The style of driving in the country suggests that Panama tourists be careful when renting cars and strongly consider purchasing the insurance.

Airplanes – The country has a good regional service for Panama tourism. Fees are reasonable and service connects the major destinations within the country such as David, Bocas del Toro, the Pearl Islands and Colon.

Boats – Along the coasts, there is some use of boats for Panama tourism but this is not a widespread. Boats are also not recommended for tourists traveling from Panama to Columbia due to safety concerns at the border; only airplane travel is viable between these two countries.

Panama Attractions

Panama is a country filled with activities. Starting in Panama City with the ruins of the ancient city, the rainforest, the Panama Canal are all an interesting visit. Throughout the country, the Carnival (held near the end of February), numerous fairs, concerts and traditional events dot the country. The country is fanatical about their national baseball league and the Panamanians such as Mariano Rivera who play in the major leagues. Soccer and basketball games are always available to be enjoyed and activities such as swimming, surfing, and fishing add to Panama tourism’s appeal to the sportsman. If you are a truly avid fisherman take a charter out to the “Tuna Coast,” the Panama Pacific where a large number of world records have been set in sport fishing.

¿Donde esta el baño? ¿Como esta usted? That pretty well sums up two years of high school Spanish taken as a college prep course almost 50 years ago! Of course, why would anyone ever need to know Spanish having never met a Mexican, let alone thought about going to Mexico? My, how times have changed!

After living in Houston for 25 years, we discovered that Mexico was only two hours away and that it had some very intriguing qualities to offer. In 1984 we bought a condo in Mismaloya, south of Puerto Vallarta, and made semi-annual visits to Vallarta for 13 years before buying a villa in the foothills of the Sierra Madres, overlooking Banderas Bay and El Centro, the downtown area of PV. When we moved to Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, known as PV or Vallarta by the locals, ten years ago, our Spanish vocabulary consisted of about five words.

Fortunately, a few taxi drivers, most restaurant waiters, and some caddies spoke, or at least understood, a little English. In order to survive here, it was imperative to understand and speak some degree of Spanish. During our first month in Vallarta, we purchased text books, manuals, dictionaries, and hired a tutor to come to our villa twice a week. We worked diligently for almost six months, learning Spanish words, paraphrases, tenses, etc. so that we would have a chance of communicating with the locals.

To assist our learning process, we watched our Mexican TV which had about five channels; CNN, Mexican shows aimed at sixth graders, and American movies with Spanish subtitles. We would then turn off the volume and try to understand the movies by reading the subtitles. Not much fun, but the price you had to pay in order to live in Paradise where the average daily temperature during the “high season” of November through May is 73°F with virtually no chance of rain!

We spent that first summer back in the States and upon returning to PV, we got lazy and discontinued our studies. Satellite TV became available in Vallarta and we no longer had the five Mexican channels, but instead had 350 channels from the US. Fortunately for us, the tourism boom in Vallarta was just beginning to occur ten years ago.

During the past decade, there have been thousands of new houses and tens of thousands of new condos, new hospitals, a new University of Guadalajara campus, new airport, new maritime terminal, etc. built in Vallarta. As tourism increased, so did the requirement for speaking English by the locals. If they could understand and speak English, they could obtain the higher paying jobs where interaction with tourists is a routine occurrence. Jobs such as waiting tables, caddying, taxi driving, police department, clerking at front desks in hotels, offices, hospitals, airport, etc. and management positions in stores and other businesses could pay three times as much as construction work, daily labor, cleaning, etc. where there is no requirement for English speaking skills.

The difference in wages was so obvious and substantial that during the past ten years, most all of the younger generation of people in Vallarta are taking English classes in school and understand and speak basic English. Even those that haven’t had a day of classroom English have a good understanding of “Espanglish” and we therefore have absolutely no problem communicating with anyone in Vallarta.

Virtually all educated Mexicans in PV such as doctors, lawyers, engineers, architects, bankers, nurses, teachers, etc. are fluent in English. In fact, the majority of these people seem to prefer speaking English with Americans and Canadians. Typical music in restaurants, bars, hotels, and even dental offices are the popular American songs. American magazines, newspapers, and books are available throughout the city, whereas ten years ago they were virtually non-existent.

In summarizing, having knowledge of Spanish is no longer a prerequisite for visiting or retiring in Vallarta.

The majority of the retirees that live in PV have little Spanish speaking ability and get along just fine. Most all tourists by plane or cruise ship have no knowledge of Spanish and they too have no communication problems. Obviously, Vallarta is not typical of Mexico, however, those considering a trip to or retirement in Vallarta with no Spanish speaking ability, should not be concerned about a language barrier here. At the rate things are changing in PV, who knows, English could become its primary language in another generation!

Jim Scherrer is a retired entrepreneur from Houston, has owned property in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico for 24 years, and has made Vallarta his permanent residence for the past ten years. He founded Puerto Vallarta Real Estate Buyers´ Agents (PVREBA), whose mission is to reveal all the recent changes that have occurred in Vallarta while dispelling the misconceptions about living in Mexico. PVREBA acts exclusively as buyers´ agents by introducing North Americans to Vallarta, showing them properties that meet their needs and budgets, and assisting them through the foreign buying process, with all payments made by the listing agents.
I do like the idea of allowing Pedestrian, Pedicabs, Taxi's, and Jitney's only. They just need to be careful with how they approach this idea while not scaring the people away. They will need a lot more parking for availble for example. … Make it one-way westbound between Houston Avenue and TC Jester. Washington becomes one-way eastbound and narrowed to accommodate pull-in parking, wider sidewalks, and a wider-than-normal bike lane suitable for use by jitneys. …

There is considerable evidence that homeopathy can successfully treat any influenza, be it the current Swine Flu also known as H1N1 or any other flu, provided the correct homeopathic medicine is used. In the influenza epidemic of 1918-19, only 1% of those treated with homeopathy died, compared to 30% of those treated with conventional medicine. **

In the following case of influenza, it is not known whether the infecting virus was H1N1 or another strain, as the patient was not tested.

A 19 year old Houston girl had been vacationing in Spain, where there were over 1,500 confirmed cases of H1N1 influenza as of July 31, 2009, with presumably many thousands more that were not tested.

The course of her influenza during the first four days was as follows:

Day 1-July 10, 2009-she flew from Barcelona to London. On arriving at Heathrow she felt ill. She and two friends took a taxi to a hostel. On the way there, her she noted, “My whole body felt really weak.” When she got out of the taxi she was too weak to lift her 60 lb. backpack that she had been carrying without difficulty for over a week.

She began to have fever alternating with chills. The exact sequence, which she described to me later, was as follows: “I would feel really hot and open the windows. After a while, I’d feel chilled, and I’d get into bed under a comforter and sleep. I’d wake up in a sweat, feeling very hot.” So she would uncover. This sequence-chill then heat followed by perspiration-continued for four days.

Day 2-July 11th-she vomited once and developed a painful throat. The glands along the sides of her throat became swollen and tender. Also, the muscles on both sides of her neck became painful. It was later determined that these were the sternocleidomastoid muscles which act to flex and rotate the head.

Day 3-July 12th-she was having trouble swallowing. “It was painful to swallow and the floor of my mouth towards the back felt closed off whenever I swallowed.” Her eyes became sensitive to light. That night she became short of breath. Her spine was so weak that she could not sit up without the support of the bed board. During this period, she was not only weak but uncoordinated. “I had to hold on to the wall and the door just to make it three feet to the bathroom,” she said. “My whole body was weak and trembling. I felt off balance. Even sitting on the toilet it was hard to hold my back up. It was so weak. I would hold onto the washbasin with my arm.”

She was very short of breath. She could not breathe in without the breath suddenly stopping in mid-inhalation. This frightened her. “It felt as if my throat would close off,” she said, pointing to her trachea.

Day 4-July 14th-she began to see double especially after sleeping. She felt as if there were a weight on her chest.

Her mother, who had been in phone contact with her, became so alarmed that she flew to London from Houston. Once there, she found out her daughter was taking two acetaminophen and two ibuprofen every four hours. These had been prescribed at an emergency room in London. Believing her daughter was taking too much medicine, her mother immediately stopped the ibuprofen.

U.K. health authorities estimated there were over 100,000 cases of influenza that week, most of which were presumed to be H1N1. No hospitals were admitting influenza cases due to overcrowding.

Her temperature did not go above 99.9ºF throughout the illness. (This is a typical finding in the current Swine Flu H1N1 virus-no or very low temperature.)

By the eighth day she was well enough to travel and flew back to Houston. Since she was still not well she saw a local medical doctor who prescribed an antibiotic that badly upset her stomach.

When I saw her three weeks after the onset she was still quite tired and sleeping 12 to 13 hours a night. Her main complaint concerned her vision which had worsened about the time she started the antibiotic.

She said the vision was “messed up.” I asked her to elaborate. She said, “It’s like I’m tripping on drugs.” I asked for more information. “Since this thing began,” she said, “when I close my eyes I see dotted lights that move up and down. Some are white, some are blue-electric blue. Sometimes there is green.”

She said her arms and legs still felt weak. “If I sit for twenty to thirty minutes my legs go numb.”

She is an artist but since the flu, she had found it harder to draw. “I get confused and nervous and can’t draw or paint for more than ten minutes. Then I’ll start staring.” After resting a bit she could continue to draw. She showed me two simple sketches. “They took me 45 minutes to an hour to do,” she said. “Normally, I could do those in 10 to 15 minutes.”

Her eyelids felt heavy.

“I feel slow, a lot slower than normal.”

Her thirst, which had been low in London, was now high.

She mentioned again that during the acute phase in London her whole body visibly.

“Currently, I can’t look at any one thing too long. When I do my vision becomes confused-my mind, too.”

“Two days ago everything I looked at became foggy. I’d close my eyes for awhile and when I opened them I could see the object again.” Because she had double vision, I asked if she could force the two objects to merge into a single object by force of will. She said she could.

I asked her if she had had any hemiopia-a condition in which there is blindness in one half of the visual field of one or both eyes. She had had the vertical kind in which half the side vision in both eyes disappears.

Currently, when she looked at an object then turned her eyes away the image of that object often followed her gaze.

If she looked to either side it caused pain in the eyes.

I asked about reading. “When I read the letters overlap,” she said.

I wanted to know more about the acute phase when she was in London. “Did you notice your heartbeat?” I asked. “Yes. I remember when I was having trouble breathing my heart would slow down. My Mom said so, too.” Later I asked her mother who said she put her ear to her daughter’s chest and noticed the heart rate sounded slow.

“In London, when you were trembling and frightened, did you have your Mom hold you?”

“Yes, she did. I remember that.”

She also had been feeling as though there was a lump in her throat since returning to Houston and taking the antibiotics.

She had another unusual symptom-she was “seeing” wavy lines, thousands of them, in her visual fields when I saw her on August 1, 2009.

At this point I examined her neck. I placed the flat of my hand against her right cheek and I asked her to turn her head into my hand. That maneuver caused the left sternocleidomastoid muscle to contract and become both visible and palpable. I moved my free hand along the muscle and it was still somewhat sore. The medicine I prescribed is known to affect those particular neck muscles. (see below)

I did not feel the antibiotics had been warranted but I also did not think they caused the vision to deteriorate since certain viruses are known to interfere with the vision. Presumably, the virus that had earlier ravaged her whole body was now interfering with her vision.

The homeopathic medicine she needed and received was Gelsemium which comes from the plant, Yellow Jasmine.

She improved immediately on Gelsemium and two days later reported her vision much improved. There was no diplopia; she was able to draw without difficulty; she could read without the letters overlapping; there was no hemiopia, and no foggy vision. A few days later, she “saw” occasional blue dots. All other symptoms had vanished.

I wish to stress that I saw her three weeks after the acute phase. When I saw her she was still tired and she had the many visual symptoms already mentioned. Gelsemium clearly made her vision normal.

The question is: could Gelsemium have cured her in the acute phase (day one to four)? I contend it could have done for the following reasons:

* The kind of fever she had: chill followed by heat followed by perspiration.

* The heaviness of her eyelids and the sensation of general bodily heaviness.

* Her general weakness coupled with incoordination.

* Her trembling.

* The pain that localized in her sternocleidomastoid muscles.

* The extreme weakness of the back.

The above symptoms are all covered by Gelsemium and can be found in our various reference works.

I propose that we keep Gelsemium in mind as we approach the coming fall with the very real likelihood that the swine flu will continue to spread.

It is of interest that Gelsemium was the most commonly prescribed homeopathic medicine during the 1918-19 flu epidemic.

Though it is possible in the current pandemic that Gelsemium will be curative in many cases it is also possible that other medicines will be needed. AS ALWAYS WITH HOMEOPATHY, THE SPECIFIC SYMPTOMS WILL LEAD TO THE CORRECT PRESCRIPTION. There is no one-size-fits-all medicine.

Each of the following rubrics (symptoms as they appear in the Repertory) contains the medicine Gelsemium.

EYE – Staring

EYE – Heaviness – Lids – Upper

GENERALS – Trembling, Externally

CHEST – Pain – burning

FEVER – Succession of states – chill – followed by – heat – then perspiration.

BACK – Weakness

If you’re looking for an ideal baseball road trip destination, Houston should be at or near the top of your list. Not only is there plenty to see and do in and around the city, but Houston is easy to reach from just about anywhere. Let’s explore Houston, home of the Astros…

Houston: An Overview

One of the best things about Houston is the ease of travel to get there. No matter where you live in the United States, there is more than likely a direct flight available to Houston.

The city itself is one of the largest metropolitan areas in the country, especially in terms of its footprint. If you plan to explore outlying areas, you will definitely need to rent a car. The downtown area is compact enough, with a light rail system designed to get you from place to place. Further, taxi service in the downtown area uses a flat fee system, a refreshing idea that eliminates any budgetary surprises.

If you plan to confine your activities to the downtown area and the ballpark, you can get by without a car. But if your stay extends past two or three days, you will want to explore a bit.

Spring and fall are the best two seasons to visit. Because of its proximity to the Gulf Coast, Houston tends to be humid. Air conditioning is a constant staple here, and although summer can be sweltering, spring and autumn are often delightful.

Baseball In Houston

Houstonians are proud of their Astros, a National League franchise since the early 1960′s. The current ballpark, Minute Maid Park, is adjacent to downtown and is one of major league baseball’s most unique venues. Center field is wide and expansive, while the left field wall is an enticing 315 feet from home plate.

The stadium sits right next to the city’s football venue, Reliant Stadium, and the Astrodome. The Astrodome was home to the Astros from 1965 through 1999 and is still used for various conventions and public events.

The area around the ballpark is known as Union Square. There are numerous entertainment options available not only here, but minutes away in downtown Houston. Public transportation is available to the games and many restaurants offer shuttles.

Currently, the Astros are in a down cycle in terms of competitiveness, although in baseball that can change from season to season. Tickets are generally available on the day of games, but popular opponents do occasionally sell out, so it is best to plan ahead. You will never have to worry about a rain out though. Minute Maid Park has a retractable dome, so your comfort is assured.

Houston Entertainment

One neighborhood not to miss in Houston is the Rice Village area. Owing its name to nearby Rice University, this is the dining and entertainment center of the city. Lively and active both day and night, Rice Village is brimming with shopping options and numerous dining choices.

Two of our favorites are Little Woodrows and Two Rows Restaurant, both located in the heart of this area. They are just steps away from most of the shops and are ideal for lunch or dinner. A good choice with a sports theme downtown is the Front Porch Pub, which is popular with the after work crowd.

If you have an extra day or two, coastal Galveston is a popular destination less than an hour away. Historic architecture and numerous seafood restaurants beckon, along with a beach and outdoors culture taking full advantage of warm Gulf waters.

Summary

Houston is an ideal baseball road trip destination, particularly for a weekend. The city is easy to reach, and you can rely on safe public transportation if your visit is limited to downtown and surrounding neighborhoods.
